Beyer Blinder Belle Reviving a mid-century modern masterpiece
Beyer Blinder Belle Reviving a mid-century modern masterpiece
Situation
The transformation of the beloved TWA Flight Center into the TWA Hotel was nearly two decades in the making. Beyer Blinder Belle—known for its work on prominent buildings and, in particular, its skill in historic preservation—had participated in conversations with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey about restoring the Flight Center and converting it into hotel, many years before actual development got underway. As the project neared completion, the firm wanted to raise awareness of its preservation work on Eero Saarinen’s landmarked TWA terminal, and its role in shepherding the transformation of the entire terminal site (tarmac included) into a world-class hotel property. Hausman achieved this through a targeted media campaign and site tour that resulted in international coverage for Beyer Blinder Belle and the entire design team.

Managed all media inquiries for months prior to and after the opening
Coordinated with the hotel’s developer and members of the core design team to ensure a clear and compelling story that gave positive exposure to all
Results
Secured major articles in leading local, national and international media outlets
Managed coverage in architecture and design press, as well as travel, hospitality, general news publications, broadcast, and more
Reinforced the firm’s expertise in historic preservation, particularly for prominent buildings
Strategized key awards programs and other outreach efforts, including panel discussions
Tami Hausman and her team navigated a complex public relations environment in their successful promotion of the TWA Hotel project. Each of the four main design team members plus the client had engaged different PR firms with their own specific perspectives for their clients. Hausman was able to both convey Beyer Blinder Belle’s primary role on the project, and the collaborative efforts of the overall team, resulting in a fair and accurate public impression of the project. The Hausman team was especially adept at providing access to a number of diverse media outlets, beyond the architectural press with whom we often meet.
